Taymor Travon McIntyre, better known as, “Tay-K” is a popular rapper who was born in Southern California and later raised in Arlington, Texas. His parents were known criminals who were affiliated with street gangs. By the time Tay-K was 16, he was engaging in criminal activity such as illegal substances, theft, and criminal street gangs.
In 2017, Tay-K killed 21 year old Ethan Walker, while robbing him. Police believed that the crime was premeditated, as he brought along two female accomplices to “seduce” Walker while Tay-K robbed him of drugs. However, a struggle occurred, resulting in 17 year old Zachary Beloate being shot and Walker dying.
After being apprehended, Tay-K, was placed on house arrest while awaiting the verdict of his hearing. While on house arrest, he cut his ankle monitor off and ran from law enforcement. While on the run, Tay-K released his most popular song, “The Race”. His song went viral, garnering the attention of millions. However, his greatest hit was also his downfall. The music video of “The Race” showed Tay-K posing in front of his “wanted” poster, holding a gun, and smoking. He was captured by authorities immediately upon the release of the music video. Lyrics from “The Race” were used in court to convict Tay-K of robbing and killing Ethan Walker. Police also claimed that he murdered a man and assaulted another while on the run. He was sentenced to 55 years in prison for his crimes.
As of 2023, Tay-K is 23 years old and will be eligible for parole in 2047. He currently has 4.7 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Many of his fans advocate for the movement, #FreeTayK, and argue that he was racially discriminated against in his trial.
