Top 34 things to do and attractions in Boulder City (2024)

Nestled just west of Hoover Dam on private land surrounded by Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Hoover Dam Lodge and Casino offers a range of accommodations from special suites to economy rooms. Guests can try their luck at the casino or take a guided hike at the nearby Historic Boulder City/Hoover Dam Park for stunning views of the dam and Lake Mead. The hotel features airy rooms with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and en-suite baths in red accents.

I stayed there for 1 night on the weekend. The bed was clean and soft. The shower was nicely pressurized and the room was clean overall. The check in and out was easy and fast. We were given vouchers for free coffee at the restaurant. The restaurant at the bighorn cafe was delicious. The casino is small and not much to play. There’s no table games but have virtual blackjack. It’s far from the strip but closer to the Hoover Dam. Overall it’s a good stay.

This place exceeded our expectations! The rooms were clean, but the service was great! Diane in the General Store took such good care of us and made a good experience great. The General Store prices were also very good. We will be going back and were sad to leave. Shout out also to Jeanine at the front desk. She fussed over us, making sure we had everything we needed. Awesome staff! Thanks for a great visit!

I stayed in this hotel last week and really loved it. The staff were so friendly, the room was large and comfortable and the pool was open in the evening so we had a night swim under the stars. I'm from Europe and to me the hotel has a real 'American' feel which was so fun. Great location to visit the Hoover Dam and only a short drive to Boulder City. Excellent value for money; would recommend it to anyone looking for a short stay in the area

Staff is friendly and accommodating. Casino is not over packed and payouts seem "fair". The Bighorn Cafe has great food. My boyfriend and I have eaten there several times and have not been disappointed at all. It's also very reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend eating there if you visit.

While the rooms need some remodeling, everything was clean and quiet place to rest from the strip. The lobby does smell of smoke but not overpowering, it's a faint smell if you can tolerate it. Do not sleep on the hoover dam/Lake mead hiking trail it is breathtaking! Good moderate exercise and chilly due to the tunnels. The location of the lodge is perfect, surrounded by nature and a 25 min drive to the strip. We had a minor inconvenience with our reservation through a 3rd party, however, Diane from the front desk went above and beyond to help get it sorted out! She was so kind and flexible to getting our stay situated.

Steph O — Google review

This hotel is a good alternative to strip hotels and I stayed twice because I really like the large RV parking lot. However, the West facing rooms I got were so hot it took 4 hours of running the AC (they left it set very high) before I could go into the room. I literally stayed here for the cool room in the desert and it was hot, only slightly cool until around midnight. I might (maybe) stay here again but the room can't/won't be on the West side.

Looking for a place off the beaten path, this is it. Amazing views of the lake. Price was fair considering location. Love the food at the Cafe and the deli. Lots of machines to choose from. Staff are friendly and helpful. There is a secret walking path around the back to take amazing pictures of the lake and surrounding rocks. One of my favorite places to visit.

Lisa P — Google review

Stayed here one night after a Vegas trip to do a kayaking tour. Checked in late evening. The woman at the desk gave great customer service, had no issues at check in. Rooms were dated, dusty, and there were large swaths of open space, so if you wanna play twister in the room this is the place for you.Based on the price of the room, you're getting what you paid for but for a cheap stay this is definitely one of the nicer places I've been to. We had a lake view which was relatively nice.

Jayson A — Google review

Cool place to stay off the strip. EV charging was great. Staff was awesome. Lots to do and see here--a little something for everyone. The room was a bit outdated and worn out, but the beds were comfortable, room was big, and the price was decent. Somewhat typical noises from the fridge, air conditioner and, I think, the swimming pool made earplugs a necessity. Otherwise, it would have been very quiet. No coffee makers in the rooms, so they give you coupons for free coffee at the store in the lobby. This is Nevada, so the lobby was smoky, but the rooms are all non-smoking, and our room didn't have the slightest hint of smoke smell.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Hoover Dam Lodge and Casino, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a stunning view of the surrounding desert landscape. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well-appointed, providing a cozy retreat after a long day of exploration. The in-room amenities, including a comfortable bed, flat-screen TV, and high-speed internet, made my stay even more enjoyable.Breathtaking Scenery: Situated near the iconic Hoover Dam, the lodge offers mesmerizing views of the Colorado River and the rugged desert terrain. Whether it was from my room, the casino, or the dining area, I was treated to captivating panoramas at every turn.Thrilling Casino Experience: As a casino enthusiast, I was pleased to find a well-designed and lively casino floor at the Hoover Dam Lodge. The variety of slot machines, table games, and poker rooms ensured there was something for every gaming preference. The friendly staff and vibrant atmosphere added to the excitement of trying my luck.Delicious Dining Options: The dining choices were fantastic, offering a blend of mouthwatering cuisines to satisfy any palate. From fine dining restaurants to casual eateries, I was spoiled for choice. I particularly enjoyed the hearty breakfast buffet, which provided a perfect start to my day.Convenient Location: The lodge's proximity to the Hoover Dam made it an ideal base for exploring this iconic landmark. Additionally, the easy access to other attractions in the area, such as Lake Mead and the scenic Arizona Hot Springs, made my stay all the more enriching.Attentive Staff: The staff at Hoover Dam Lodge and Casino truly went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay. From the front desk personnel to the waitstaff at the restaurants, everyone was friendly, professional, and eager to assist.Peaceful Retreat: Despite being a casino property, the lodge managed to create a peaceful and serene ambiance. Whether it was lounging by the pool or strolling through the well-maintained gardens, I found ample opportunities to relax and unwind. In conclusion, my experience at the Hoover Dam Lodge and Casino was nothing short of exceptional. It perfectly blends the excitement of a lively casino with the tranquility of a desert oasis. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a memorable and rejuvenating getaway. My stay at this hotel was a true highlight of my trip. The room's elegant décor and modern conveniences provided a welcoming haven, while the staff's gracious hospitality made me feel like part of a family. The hotel's commitment to sustainability resonated with me, and their initiatives to minimize their environmental impact were commendable. The dining experience was exquisite, with a menu that celebrated the region's flavors and culinary heritage. The hotel's central location allowed me to immerse myself in the city's culture effortlessly. I departed with a sense of gratitude and a strong intention to return to this exceptional establishment.

We wanted to stay one last night in Nevada. I loved all the history about the Hoover Dam. The casino is clean and much quieter than the strip or downtown. Staff is very friendly. The rooms are very nice. The restaurant has good food. I highly recommend this experience.

Julie A — Google review

This was a great spot that we stopped at while visiting the dam. It was really nice with cozy lodge style furniture and fire places. The casino was a bit cheaper to play than the machine on the strip and made for a bit of gambling fun. They have a charging station outside for people that may need to charge their vehicles while adventuring around. It wasn't too busy and was quite and enjoyable.

Chris — Google review

We stayed here as we were returning from Arizona very late and it seemed to save another 40min to hour drive to las vegas. The hotel seems nice overall. The lobby and casino looked clean and well kept. More peaceful than Vegas casinos. The hotel room had all the basic amenities including microwave. The rooms looked a little old but beds were comfy and no noise from outside. We had a really nice sleep after a long trip. Also our room had a partial view of Lake Mead which was a bonus. The cafe downstairs has really good food and the menu price is lower than most of the places. Also the hotel gives you free coffee coupons on check in.

Hidden Gem! This casino is a hit. Theres a nice variety games on the floor, to keep things interesting.Love there cute cafe! Reminds me of a fair food. Yum! And there staff that work in there are so welcoming and provide excellent service.Haven't got to stay in a room yet, but plan on coming back to do so.

I have been a faithful player for years whenever I visit Boulder City I go to this casino that is small but very beautiful and familiar but this time it was not like that I entered with a can of beer in my hand because it is very hot and the chase immediately began Throughout the casino there were 2 security people who made a fuss over a can of beer. It was as if I had stolen a treasure from the place. It was very uncomfortable and harassing. That experience was definitely negative. I won't put a second thought there. The Hispanic security was rude and ignorant. I am a client, not a homeless person, and they treat me as if I were a good street person. Thanks to that, I went to Henderson to play at Emeralds Casino, I won 800 dollars, and they treated me with respect and were very kind. Thanks to that Hispanic man for getting me out of there.

We arrived around 2am and were greeted by Jeannie at the front desk who was such a sweet woman. We had an issue with our booking that she immediately fixed for us. She also gave us late checkout due to our time of arrival and gave us free coffee coupons! Free parking on site and the lot is huge. The actual hotel / casino is awesome. There is a big casino with a bar and a bunch of smaller themed casinos with different cuisines in each. There is also a general store with literally all the snacks, alcohol, drinks you could possibly need and a cafe for breakfast. Everything except the cafe is open 24 hours. The room was wonderful. There is a TV, microwave, mini fridge, bed and sofa. The bed was very comfortable. We did not shower so I can’t speak if water pressure or anything like that was good or not but it was large and everything in the room was extremely clean. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. We skipped breakfast at the cafe because of reviews

Christine M — Google review

The pool was tiny and in the shade of the building, so it was really cool. The service was okay but the staff didn't seem happy to work there. The lobby was very fragrant, my kids held their breath whenever we had to walk through. The restaurant in the hotel was great, and it was so close to the dam.

Gen B — Google review

What an excellent experience! Fair prices, good food and service from the diner and exceptional service from Anthony and the rest of the security staff, making sure my trailer with motorcycles was safe and watched over all night AND Michelle even made sure to give us a room overlooking the lake and our vehicle. Will definitely be staying here again! It’s nice to see businesses, especially of this size, still trying to put customer service first. Also, they are very proud of their mining heritage as is evident by all the historic decorations and whatnot all around the casino/hotel. Edit 3/6/23: coming back through and looking forward to our return stay and I wish I could give more stars. Great service once again. Jeannie was very helpful and friendly. Thank you Barbara for finding a room that, once again, looked out over the lake and my bike (in the parking lot) giving us a beautiful view and a little more peace of mind being able to see my vehicle. If I could do another 5 star review I would. Thanks to everybody, including maintenance, for being so polite, friendly, personable, helpful and down to earth.

Kevin C — Google review

Cool place to stay outside of Vegas. Its not the Ritz but that said the rooms are nice and it's got a casino, bar, restaurants etc. The staff were super polite. Also, very helpful when I cut my finger.

We got into town late and wanted to see the Hoover Dam. I booked this hotel through a 3rd party service I had never used before. When we arrived out reservation had not. We worked for over an hour trying to get the reservation to go through. I had gone back to my vehicle to try to get service when the lady from behind the counter came to get me saying they had it figured out. I believe that they just gave us the room hoping that the reservation would go through but I do not know for sure. By this time it was 2am and we had been on the road since 7am the day before. She gave us a great room with a great view for our trouble (which had nothing to do with the hotel, it was entirely the 3rd party reservation system). We also got a welcome gift of bottled water and mini candy bars and coupons for free coffee. We were away from home for 8 days and this was one of our best stays. We were up and gone by 8:30 so we weren't there long.

Ramona D — Google review

One of my favorite stops. The store is an amazing gift shop . Every small restaraunt in the lodge has its own theme and gambling area. Plenty of games on the floor. Great open floor plan. Beautiful spacious inside and out. Historical background of the damn ..beautifu scenic point during the Day. Location is just outside of the chaos of any town or city but close enough to find anything you need at any time

Olive O — Google review

We stopped here for a quick lunch after visiting the Dam. We were expecting it to be expensive. It was very reasonable priced and our lunch was delicious. Every meal around us looked just as delicious. My wife had lobster bisque and declared it the best that she’s ever tasted. The staff was very friendly. We would recommend this place for a destination. There is a casino in there as well and a good gift shop.

Randy S — Google review

At check in the front desk. Person was too busy on his own computer. However, once we got checked in, the views were outstanding. Got to walk on the trail. The room was comfortable. The bed was comfortable, it was clean. The history was good to read.Efinitely a good spot to stop it.

Joseph C — Google review

Quiet, hiking or walking trails. Sweet views. Casino was clean and nice inside. Not to crowded, also little mall inside and artifacts. Fun. Didn't really win on slots but it's slots so.

My husband and I stayed here the last day of our honeymoon. We're back...! He's a truck driver at work now and I needed some beneficial soak and relax bath time away from home after his job was done near here. It's nice and quiet. There are l9ts of restaurants to choose from, and the ladies at the general store were so nice that when I couldn't find my right charger there for my phone, one let me borrow hers! It's is so pleasant and relaxing here. It really is a nice vacation spot away from it all. There is also a helicopter here for tours around both the Grand Canyon and Vegas, i believe. Of course, being by the Hoover Dam, you can tour that by air, too. It is just a nice way to enjoy things without the hustle and bustle of driving into the crowded traffic and what not of Las Vegas.

M B — Google review

Well this place used to be awesome... But as of last week they closed down the big horn cafe there. Which me and my friend and service dog looooved going there especially going for breakfast after hiking in the area. That's pretty much it for food in the place because most of the food at the store next door came from the Cafe they have just closed down without saying for how long, there were muffins in the store that's it,but sounds like it won't be a short time. So if you plan to stay here you'll be having to drive into boulder city with your family for every meal so you might as well just stay in boulder city cause there's no food here anymore.

Isaiah — Google review

We stayed one night and selected this property to be close to Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. The hotel rooms were good and the check-in staff was very nice and accommodating.Dining options were quite limited. Only one of the 4-5 restaurants did not have slot machines in the eating area. Restaurant service was inconsistent although the wait staff was nice. And, if you want to walk somewhere else, forget it.Great walking trail along the old railroad bed that was used when Hoover Dam was being built.Due to location and lack of dining options, we would not stay here again.

Paul W — Google review

Close to the dam and very affordable room prices. Drinks don’t cost an arm and a leg like on the strip, but you’re not on the strip so there’s no casino hopping, this place is out in the middle of nowhere. Food was good.

Adventure E — Google review

I generally like a lodge type hotel/resort however, the booking site I used didn't say "& casino." I have no problem with gambling or casinos, but, as in many cases with casinos, this is a smoking facility. You can get non-smoking rooms, but all public areas are smoking. The room did not smell of smoke, which was good. The hallway smelled a little smoke. I'm not sure if there are smoking rooms or if this was just coming up from the lobby and casino area. Also, because this is a casino, it's not particularly kid friendly. Second hand smoke aside, of the many resturant options, there is only one that doesn't have slots or something similar in it, so there is only one resturant kids can eat in and it closes at 8pm. After eating there and going back to the room we had to change our clothes because we smelled like smoke. There are not a lot of immediate food options around the lodge. Also, the pool looks pretty but is ice cold, and there's just not much there for kids. Even the TV channel selection was poor, and wifi kept disconnecting.Location wise, it's great with proximity to the dam, Lake Mead, and Las vegas. The free parking and no resort fee is great.Rooms were a good size. I think we got a standard 2 queen room. The bed is decently comfy. I would have liked more than 1 super flat pillow and one medium lumpy pillow. The view wasn't bad but it ovelooked part of another building. Im ok with that. The doors are heavy, and they slam when shut even if you try to shut it quietly.I really had high hopes and wanted to like this place when i pulled in.The price per night was good, and the staff were great. The overall appearance of the inside and outside is pleasing. This type of faculty with smoking is fine. I was just a bit ticked because the hotel listing didn't make that information prevalent. If you have breathing issues, you won't be able to hang out long in the common areas.I wouldn't stay here again because I travel with my minor daughter. It's just not kid or family friendly because of the above-mentioned stuff. Even if traveling with another adult, I probably wouldn't because at the end of the day, after sight seeing, if you don't like to smoke and gamble, this is a rather boring place.

Meda W — Google review

Great location! The room is massive and beds are comfortable. The only downside is that during the day, our room had a hard time staying cool, but during the night it was much better.

Madison C — Google review

Great location, but the hotel is dated and needs renovation. Too few available outlets or charging ports made a game of finding outlets that weren't already used for lamps etc. Wallpaper peeling in corner of room, but things were clean. Just needs a healthy renovation. Food choices are limited to small restaurants with limited selections. I'm not a gambler, but seemed to be ample opportunities if you were inclined.

Carl H — Google review

So do they keep the rooms uninviting so that people won't want to stay inside and go gamble? Cause that's how we felt. Luckily we were only staying one night. The furniture looked like it was from the 70's, except for the TV that didn't have anything hiding the cords along the wall going to the outlet except for cheap plastic covers. Oh and be very careful when turning on the switch for the a/c, you will get shocked. Guess there's exposed wiring or something. The bathroom floor has stains in front of the toilet, the shower floor is cracked, and there's a floodlight outside that shines through the curtain. The front desk is no help, we asked one woman a couple of basic questions and she didn't know the answer to most of them. There was an employee in the morning waiting in line for coffee and was making rude comments to other employees about how they're trying to get to work but can't cause my family was taking too long. I don't think we were and there was plenty of room for them to make their coffee along side us if he was that rushed. No wonder this place is empty and I barely saw anyone else staying there or gambling. Don't stay here cause it's close to the Hoover Dam, go the extra 10 minutes into Boulder City.

Ian L — Google review

This is a surprisingly good hotel if you're passing through the Lake Mead Hoover Dam area -- really great location, well priced rooms, and friendly staff!Right outside the hotel is the "old railroad" trail along the lake and to the dam. It's about 3 miles (one way, not a loop), flat, and with amazing views! I think they'll rent you bikes, but we just walked it and enjoyed the views. The rooms are definitely dated - from the 1990's and look older -- but they're clean, have views of the lake, have good showers, hot water, and don't smell or anything like that. "Fairly priced" I'd say.Only bad part about the place is that you can't get a good cup of coffee anywhere...Everyone on the staff we talked with was super friendly and helpful. This place is a low-key, informal, friendly vibe.

M P — Google review

I enjoyed the room, it was a great time. But who I really want to talk about is our waitress at the dining area. Cheryl, she’s carrying this entire place on her back. Not only was her costumer service exceptional, but she was quite funny and our family laughed plenty. Props to Cheryl, thanks for making us feel welcome.

Vanessa T — Google review

Driving through the area to visit the Hoover Dam along our road trip and this was the perfect place to stay. There was plenty of parking, checkin was quick and easy, the rates were very reasonable, and the room was plenty large enough. We definitely enjoyed the oversized room, but found it to be a little bare…not much in the way of decor. The beds were comfortable, although only two small pillows on each bed.Overall we liked this lodge just fine and would definitely stay here again. There’s nothing particularly wrong with this hotel, but it’s not a 5-star hotel. It is aging a little, but they seem to do well keeping it up.The bathroom in the room has a walk in shower (no tub), and the light switch is outside the bathroom. Water pressure is fine.Blackout curtains don’t cover the entire window and there’s light that comes in under the room door so there is a little light coming into the room at night.Plenty of parking for any size vehicle, including an RV or semi truck.Casino on the bottom level couldn’t even be heard near our room which was great. We didn’t try out the pool, but it looked nice and there was a hot tub as well.We had dinner in the Big Horn Cafe on the first floor and it was okay, but not great. Probably wouldn’t spend the money to eat there again.

I took a drive down the Boulder City yesterday. And this little gem I found beautiful, and I enjoyed looking at all the history with the boulder dam experience... Can hardly wait to book a weekend getaway. But so far from what I see, I would love to plan a trip here...

Lynn S — Google review

Great little getaway! The rooms are older, but huge! Everyone was super friendly. My only complaint is there wasn't many places to eat. They have a sit down restaurant that has good food, but the other places are more of finger foods. If you stay be sure to check out the historic railroad trail! It will take you directly to the Hoover Dam

Shannon C — Google review

I stayed here a couple of times while traveling between California and Arizona. The hotel is a bit dated, but the rooms have always been clean, cozy, and the beds are comfortable. I've always been able to use one of the free EV chargers. One downside is that we couldn't find anywhere that would deliver food to the hotel and the restaurant at the hotel closes fairly early at 8pm. That said, boulder city is only a short drive down the road.

Kevin R — Google review

I loved this hotel! The view was amazing (definitely worth paying for lake view in my opinion). Also check out the AAA discount if you have it! Family friendly hotel for sure. They have a casino bit they also have a game room with standard arcade games. Super close to the Hoover Dam (~10 mins), pretty close to the strip too (~30-50 mins depending on traffic). We stayed on the strip some of our vacation and stayed out here the night before our Hoover Dam tour. Would highly recommend that!
